Touch typing (also called touch and type method) is typing without needing to look at the keyboard. Typically, a touch typist memorises the location of keys on a keyboard through muscle memory by learning the position of keys with respect to their fingers. Touch typing usually involves the use of 8 fingers and 1 thumb (normally the right thumb), with the four fingers of each hand placed on the home row at first. One-handed touch typing is also possible.
